Should You Get a Business License for Your Photography Side Hustle?

A business license isn't for everyone, but I think a lot of photographers with big dreams can and should benefit from a business license.

Who is a business license NOT for:

  • those who just want to take photos for fun and personal use

Who is a business license for:

  • those who want to make legit money with photography

Does this sound familiar?

You're not raising your prices and charging what you want to be charging because you're not legal yet, but maybe you're not legal yet because you're not making enough for it to matter.

Kind of a viscous cycle, huh?

Getting a business license is not only a form of accountability, commitment, a kick in the pants if you will...

But it's also a form of freedom. Once you get that business license for your photography endeavors, you're free to make as much money as you want.

I get ittttt. For real. I hesitated on this one. It felt too confusing to tackle so I put it off.

Afraid of starting and failing? I get it.

Overwhelmed with all the official words and documents and fees? I so get it.

BUT one day I booked a wedding for $1300. That was the highest package I had ever booked, and we finally decided it was time to go for it. Guess what - when I finally said, “Okay, that’s it. I’m doing this,” things changed for me. I now felt the freedom to run with this business and go all in.

And P.S. it’s probably not as complicated as you’ve made it to be in your head.

So if you're cool with keeping this photography thing as a very small side hustle, that's totally fine! But if you're dreaming of it being more, if you know it can be more, I say do the thing!📄✔️👏🏼
